UTTC Comeback Falls Short Against Dawson, 79-71
The United Tribes women's basketball team couldn't pull off the comeback against Dawson Community College on Monday night at the James Henry Gymnasium falling 79-71.
The Buccaneers (11-6) opened the contest building up a 10-point advantage at half, 45-35. The Thunderbirds (6-9) surged back in the fourth frame outscoring the Mavericks to pull back within four, 74-70, following a jumper from Kelanna McClain with 3:35 to play. But, the Thunderbirds were held to one point for the remainder of the game.
LaTosha Thunderhawk paced the Thunderbirds reaching her sixth double-double of the season with a season-high 27 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals. She shot 10-of-15 from the field, while going 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. McClain also hit double digits in scoring with 13 points on 4-of-10 shooting. Freshman guard, Sandie Friday, rounded out the double digit scoring column with 10 points and a game-high six assists.
UTTC shot 50.0 percent (27-54) from the field and 68.4 percent (13-19) from the free throw line.
UTTC hosts Mon-Dak conference foe, Miles Community College (2-13) on Wednesday, Jan. 12. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. This game is a rescheduled matchup from Sunday Jan. 9 and will only feature a women's contest.
