Thunderhawk's Career High Not Enough to Lift UTTC Over Blue Hawks
Sophomore, LaTosha Thunderhawk, filled her stat sheet with 34 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals in a loss to Dickinson State JV Wednesday evening in the James Henry Gymnasium.
United Tribes women's basketball dropped a close contest Wednesday, falling to Dickinson State (JV) 76-73 at the James Henry Gymnasium after a 29-17 fourth quarter effort from the Blue Hawks.
LaTosha Thunderhawk would lead UTTC (2-5) early with 22 points in the first half as the sophomore powered the Thunderbirds to a 42-31 first half lead. However, Dickinson State (JV) would shoot 55.6% in the second half and outscore the Thunderbirds in the fourth quarter, 29-17.
Thunderhawk led three Thunderbirds in double figures on the evening with 34 points on 15-of-24 shooting, including 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. Freshman, Sandie Friday, would go on to finish with 12 points, while Kelanna McClain chipped in with 10 points, with a 6-of-6 effort from the free throw line.
Thunderhawk led UTTC on the glass with 14 rebounds, while sophomore, Haylee Langdeau, led the Thunderbirds off the bench with seven rebounds. Freshman, Kelanna McClain, recorded two blocks in the loss moving her to three blocks on the season.
Kayden Steele led Dickinson State with 21 points, while Teagan Townsend added 14 points and 4 assists.
The Thunderbirds were 51.4 percent in shooting from the field in the first half, going 19-for-37, but went just 8-for-32 (25.0 percent) the rest of the way to finish with 39.1 percent shooting on the evening. Conversely, Dickinson State was held to just 40.6 percent (13-for-32) in the first half, but the Blue Hawks would shoot 55.6 (15-for-27) percent in the second half to pull away from the Thunderbirds.
Dickinson State would lead 19-9 in points off the bench and also converted 17 Thunderbird turnovers into 11 points, while UTTC had four points off turnovers.
The United Tribes women's basketball team will be back in action Saturday November 20 as they travel to Lake Region State College, before hosting North Dakota State College of Science Sunday November 21.
