Thunderbirds End Mon Dak Conference Tournament with 81-74 win over Bismarck State College

On the third day of the Mon Dak Conference Tip Off Tournament the Thunderbirds came from behind to knock off the Mystics of Bismarck State College.  Both teams struggled to score the ball in the first half and went into the locker room tied at 31-31.  They Mystics jumped out to a ten point lead in the second half and the Thunderbirds chipped away before eventually taking the lead 75-72 on back to back three pointers by Tate Bear.  Tribes held on to win the game 81-74.

Tate Bear led the Thunderbirds in scoring with 22 points and 10 rebounds.  Cecelio Montgomery added 19 and Harry Sheridan chipped in 16.

The opening game of the tournament was very competitive.  UTTC trailed 47-43 at the half and were eventually turned back by the hot shooting Royals of Lake Region State College 104-91.  Tate Bear led the way again with 22 points and 8 rebounds.  Montgomery finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds.  Also reaching double figures were Tyree Florence-Patton with 13 and Sheridan with 11.

The tournaments second game was against the Dakota College Bottineau Lumberjacks.  The Thunderbirds jumped out to a big lead in the first half, but the Jacks changed the momentum and trailed by only two points, 36-34 at halftime.  Tribes again jumped out to a significant lead in the second half and had a commanding 82-72 lead with five minutes to play.  Costly turnovers and cold shooting would undue the Thunderbirds and the Jacks came back to win 96-91.  

Cecelio Montgomery had a big game for the Thunderbirds as he finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds.  Nick Jiles contributed 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists.  Also reaching double figures were Tate Bear with 15, Harry Sheridan with 12, and Tyree Florence-Patton finished with 11.

United Tribes next heads to Minnesota for games against Rainy River Community College this Friday at 6pm and on Saturday they face off with reigning 4 time National Tournament qualifier Dakota County Techinical College at 3pm.
